Sunday morning gospel: The Rebels Quartet--My Greatest Moment

At this excellent site, you can read the complicated history of the Rebels Quartet of Tampa, Florida.  All I know is that this particular edition of the group (1960-ish) features possibly the most amazing (and amazingly low) quartet bass I've ever heard--one London Parris.  He steals the show on two outstanding performances--God Made a Way and This Old House.

This is virtuoso Southern gospel, brought to us by the aforementioned London Parris, lead (and pianist) Jimmy Taylor, baritone John Mathews, and tenor Horace Parrish.  Everything about this album is terrific... except, maybe, the notes.  Sample: "When you hear (the Rebels Quartet) sing the songs so inspiring in this album 'My Greatest Moment,' then you will know why we say, Sing Music Company proudly presents the Rebels Quartet."  I love '50s and '60s gospel liner notes.  Now you know why.

To the sounds: Rebels Quaret: My Greatest Moment

My Greatest Moment
What Is Your Cross
He's Everything To Me
God Made a Way
Then I Met the Master
Jesus, the Light of the World
It Is No Secret
Supper Time
Ten Thousand Angels
This Old House
Lord Build Me a Cabin
Farther Along

(The Rebels Quaret--My Greatest Moment; Sing L.P. 8001)

Better than Thurl Ravenscroft in This Old House? I gotta hear this.

I'm with Buster, sir. And if it weren't so irreverent, I'd add a comment about a stolen bass.

Oh, never mind! But thank you for the gospel as always, Lee!

Kind regards,
Aging Child
