Off the Burt-en Trail

Possibly my worst word play ever. (Applause) Thank you, thank you.

I don't have an image for this post, so we'll just move on to the music. First, let me think if there's anything I have to say about it.

Um..... (Tick, tock, tick, tock) Well, everything's from my vinyl collection. All of it was ripped by me. And most of it is Burt stuff that doesn't fit into the Early Burt series--and/or stuff that's off the burt-en trail. Um.... (Tick, tock, tick, tock) I guess that's it.

Lee,

I'm floored. You never cease to amaze with these obscure Bacharach recordings. By the way, was that Kate Smith selection from an LP? If so, I'd love to know the other cuts.

Yes, it was an LP cut. Came out on RCA. Let me research it and get back to you.

She does quite well with the song, doesn't she?

It's "Songs of the Now Generation," RCA LSP-4105 (1969). The tracks are listed at this link:

I didn't hang on to the LP--should have, as it has another BB track on it.

I'm always astonished when I run across Jerry Orbach's vocal performances on the bway cast album of Promises Promises. "I'll Never Fall" never did much for me on the radio, but hearing it in the context of "The Apartment," from Fran and Buddy themselves, really made the song more meaningful to me. I think Burt's music for that show is unusually good for the age, and a really neat direction that the stage musical should have taken. I know Dionne was Burt's main representative on radio, but there's a lot more to get out of those songs, and some of the artists you've brought really bring something new. Thanks for improving my Burt perspective!
